 | Just streamed the film last night and found it to be wonderful in story and also cinematography. Read the reviews (wiki included this morning) and was astonished to find how it 'bombed' at the movies losing $50 mill, and how the reviewers slated it as 'trash'. Yet, for me, this is one of the best films Ive seen for quite a while. I understand that film productions of novels can be awkward at best when trying to capture the sense of the written form, but I'd highly recommend this film- quite beautiful.  | I honestly think the Goldfinch book was better suited for a mini series then a 2 hour movie. The first third of the movie was great, good character presentation, story moved well etc, but then the other two thirds felt like the plot had suddenly realized it only had an hour left for more than half the story.  | I went to the reference desk of our library and asked a frustrated young Literature major to recommend a fairly recent work by a rising female writer. Without hesitation, he said, "The Goldfinch". I didn't ask what it was about or anything about the author. I checked it out and plunged into the worlds within worlds which spin within its pages. I didn't want to even see a trailer until I finished it. And, once I finished it, I grimaced at the thought of any director trying to do it justice. I just now watched the trailer and, despite the rapid and numerous jumps, I can tell that whoever made the movie absolutely loved what's good about this gently thunderous work.
