 | This was not the original ending. Jordan changed it because of all that was going on in the country at the time. He wanted black people to have a happy ending. The scariest thing about this movie is that black people, at least in my she group have all experienced being the only black person in a room full of white people and he taps into that uncomfortable-ness and the weird stupid shut that white people say and do to black people, like asking do e know tiger, or Venus and reaching out and just touching our hair without asking and asking weird shit that is low key racist but they don't think so. So it's a scene and experiencethat a lot of us have gone through but that added thing of taking over your body and giving the reason as to why they do and say these things, making it sinister.  | One of my personal favorite parts about the movie is that Chris wins by being intelligent. When the art director guy told Chris about the reasons they wanted to be black, it was "stronger, faster, and cooler". None of them said smarter.  | What is interesting is the amount of laughing that the panel was doing during the film. When I saw this movie originally, there was a multiracial audience of people over 35 and absolutely no one found it humorous. People left the theater absolutely shaken. I think u guys missed the looks/facial expressions of pain and confusion, the talk of absurd racism, symbolism, throwing body parts in the trash, visible scars on the Blacks after surgery, etc. Your reaction was very “surface” and the discussion after the film was hard to watch because there was really no understanding of what you saw. Not even a clear understanding of the coffee cup scenes and “sunken place” and comparing your scary dreams and a muppet movie to anything in this film is just shameful.  | I had the same question about the grandparents… like do they ever just chill with the family, or? Also: 1. Their insistence that Chris stop smoking was so he would make for a cleaner vessel. 2. Chris is an amateur photographer and had his camera on him, but he used his cellphone to snap a photo of Dre, because cellphones have been important to truth revealing of racism in recent years. 3. Chris is drawn to Jim - the blind guest at the party, because everyone else seems to be obsessed with his race. He assumes he can relax with Jim. However even though Jim isn’t racist, he’s “color blind” we come to see that being “unable to see color” doesn’t mean you’re not capable of aiding and abetting racism.  | I think the best part of this film is the way it leads you into thinking that everyone is racist but in the end the guy who won the bid for him is both blind and does not care about race at all, he just wants his eyes which is far, far creepier and makes much more sense. Unfortunately I think Jordan Peele might be a one hit wonder as all his shit I've seen since is just "What if this interesting concept but, racism too?"... it's very predictable after you've seen this movie to know how all his stuff will play out. I genuinely hope he moves on from the whole race thing and tries tackling something different because he has the ability to make a good movie clearly.  | I think that this movie is really uncomfortable for white people to watch because their "kind" are the bad guys in it. Not just one bad white guy but the entirety of white people in the movie are rotten apples. As an iranian I've had to feel discomfort in a lot of american movies where iranians or muslims (whether arabs or whatever) are always depicted as bad guys and terrorists solely because of the political animosity that has been going on for a long time between west and muslims, especially USA. In some movies "we" are rotten apples open while in others conspiratory. And I can only assume that this is in the nature of all colours and ethnicities to feel discomfort at having to watch your identity being portraited as the "bad kind". However, I think that it's not enough with just one or two movies to give that real identity discomfort. So it wouldn't shock me if white people don't feel as much discomfort as the rest of us (blacks, muslims and so on) because we've had to watch this identity elimination over and over and over again.
